YOUR GENERATION CAN BECOME WEALTHY STARTING FROM YOU

Mr. Ikeh is an elder brother of one of my secondary school friends. He resigned from a government job

ree

six years ago now. I had not heard so much about him since his resignation apart from the fact that he traveled abroad with his family 2 years after his resignation. So, this great day, I met him at a building materials' store, in Asaba

.

.

"Alphonso Reuben", he whispered my name quietly but loud enough for me to hear. I looked at my side and saw a man in his late 30's looking so fresh in a well-starched Buba and Sokoto. He had changed a bit, but not too hard to recognize especially with his signature smile. We exchanged greetings and he gave a warm hug. It's been a while we saw! We reached for two chairs in the shop and sat to discuss.

.

.

I asked him when he came back to the country. He said, only his family stays abroad, while he has been home frequently. He usually comes home to get properties or check his ongoing building projects. He told me he was around to get some building materials to finish his 6 blocks of flats in an Asaba Private Residential Estate.

.

.

Curious to know more about why he left Government Service the time he did. He told me, he got an offer to consult for a multinational company on a 4-year contract, he had no option than resigning so he could focus on the contract, besides, his superiors then, weren't going to give him leave of absence. So, he had an option between relocating abroad after his contract with the company expires or start a business here in Nigeria, but he had no clue yet.

.

.

Prior to that time, had bought few plots of land through cooperative societies and through friends, that was even before he got married. He just bought those lands, hoping to sell them and make some profits over them later.

.

.

During his 4-year contract with the firm, he got an opportunity of attending a Real Estate Conference in Lagos. It was after the conference that he started seeing the benefits of investing in Real Estate. He decided to make a plan and started saving most of his income from the contract towards it. He also got other lands in Asaba and Lagos. He said, when he was about to start his Lagos project, he sold 2 of his landed properties in a developed area to start the project. When the Lagos house was completed, he rented each flat out at N700,000 per apartment. He took the money and invest it back in the Ibadan project which is now about to be completed.

.

.

All the while he was talking, I was just saying, "Ehn ehn! Wow! Amazing"! "My head was just turning on its own".

.

.

He said something that struck me, here is it…

.

.

"By the time I am done with the Asaba project, the rents from all my apartments should be enough to take care of some of my bills but then, I will be reinvesting in real estate again but with focus on hospitality. By the time I can no longer work, I want my children to enjoy the benefits of my decisions. All I am doing today, is for my family. I have been poor before and I never want to be in my life again."

.

.

At this point, I told him, Egbon, you've gone far! I hailed him and used that opportunity to remind him that I am still a Builder ohhh and I can work with him on his future projects!

.

.

That conversation I had with Mr. Ikeh shifted my mind and made me to realize that one of the reasons many families have continually lived in poverty is because no one made enough efforts to change the status quo. There are so many ways to change the financial narrative of your family, one of them is Real Estate. Make a conscious bold move to start a real estate investment TODAY. You could buy a very cheap land in a newly developing area today. In 5 or 10years, you will flip it for a higher price and re-invest in other things.
